14/3/2008Glasgow bags another stars' favourite store - Trendy Radley to open its doors incity centre

SINGER Natasha Bedingfield is a fan as is supermodel and actress Lily Cole.

Now Glasgow trendsetters can follow in their footsteps as top store Radley prepares to open its first outlet north of Manchester.

Famous for its trademark "little dog" emblazoned on everything they make, from handbags to key rings, the designer products are growing in popularity.

Already available in Frasers and John Lewis in the city this will be their first dedicated store.

The firm, which has branches in London's Covent Garden and King's Road, will open in Royal Exchange Square next month.

It will be one of Radley's largest stores and will stock its full handbag range, leather goods, silk scarves, sunglasses and gift sets.

But be warned, handbag prices start at £100 and rise to around £400.

A spokeswoman said: "We decided to open a store in Glasgow because it is a key city for Radley.

"It is an up-and-coming city and one the company wants to target as the spending power here is getting higher every year.

"The 20 to 40-year-old women are known to be highly fashion conscious and like to spend their money on clothes and accessories.

"Our customers are creative, colourful and don't follow trends.

"They want to spend their money on something that is original, fun, good quality and doesn't cost thousands."

Anderston/City councillor Gordon Matheson welcomed the firm's decision to open in Glasgow.

He said: "This is another coup for the classy Merchant City.

"Glaswegians love quality and treating themselves so I am sure the new store will not only be a welcome addition to the retail scene in the city but will also help to attract other big name operators.

"Glasgow has the fastest growing city economy in the country so it does not surprise me that high quality, design-led retail wants to locate here.

"This latest arrival proves once again that the city is firmly on the fashion map."

Lesley Sawers, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: "The arrival of Radley is great news for Glasgow and illustrates that the city continues to be an appealing retail location for prestigious brands.

"This is the first Radley store to open in Scotland and the fifth in the UK, reinforcing Glasgow's reputation as one of the most stylish cities in Europe.

"As the city's retail offering continues to go from strength to strength we hope this will attract a growing number of people into Glasgow's city centre to enjoy these new retail outlets."
